As is well known, partition size has been designated when Server 2008 users build their Server. However, as the storage demands become larger and larger, original partition size especially system partition size can not meet our current storage demands, so we had to extend partitions to get enough available space. Nevertheless, Windows 2008 Server built-in disk management tool does not offer system partition extension and shrinking. To repartition Server 2008 system partition, we have the following methods:
Merge Server 2008 system partition with another partition: This method means losing one data partition, and even a slight error or mistake may lead to data loss or data damage although data in the data partition will be transferred to the system partition.
Reinstall Server 2008 to rebuild a larger system partition: This method is the most dangerous one if we do not make a good back-up. Data in disk drive may be lost or damaged at any time.
Extend Server 2008 system partition by shrinking another partition with partition magic Server 2008: Compared with the former two methods, this method is much easier, faster, and safer. To realize system extension, we only need to drag and click.
Through comparing the above three methods, we naturally know the third method is the best one. Today, among so many partition magic Server, I recommend MiniTool Partition Wizard Server Edition which provides us with many powerful functions, such as resize partitions even system partition without data loss, wipe partitions which can avoid data leakage, format partitions, delete partitions, move partitions, convert file system, and change cluster size. Besides, it offers the unique Enhanced Data Protection function, so we do not need to worry about data safety when using it. Next, let's see how to repartition Server 2008 with partition magic Server 2008.
Repartition Server 2008 without deleting or formatting
First, open this partition magic Server, and then we can see the following interface.
In the above interface, we right click partition adjacent to the Server 2008 system partition, and select "Move/Resize" in the popup menu.
Next, we drag the left border rightwards, and then click "OK" to go to the next interface.
Here, unallocated space has appeared, and we right click the system partition and select "Move/Resize".
Next, drag the right border rightwards to hold the desired unallocated space, and then click "OK" functional button.
If we are sure of our operations, we can click "Apply" to perform all operations.
It is not only a partition magic Server 2008, but a partition magic for Server 2000, 2003 and other Server systems.
